hóPLAY’s alliance with the Fun&Serious Festival boosted Bilbao’s presence on the international video game scene. The 2012 hóPLAY included different aspects covered by each of the two festivals, making it complementary and very complete, and adding all-round interest.
hóPLAY’12 was held in the 6,000 square-metre Atrium of Cultures, where different brands showcased the latest video game developments. Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony presented debut products like the Nintendo Wii U, the Sony Wonder Book or Microsoft’s new releases such as Halo 4, and several episodes of its new TV series were shown.
The 25 finalist video games of the 3rd hóPLAY Competition, received from different countries all over the world, could also be played in the Atrium. These companies showed how their creative video games were developed in the Official Selection, enabling experience exchange between local and international developers. The winners received their €36,000 prize money at the hóPLAY Gala.
The video game investment and innovation conference, held in collaboration with Tecnalia and BilbaoEkintza, included speakers such as Akamon’s Jaime Ferré.
Different courses and workshops were held throughout the week, geared to a variety of participants: ‘Safe, healthy video game playing’, ‘Keep your mind active with video games’ or ‘How to buy a video game this Christmas’.
