8th International Contest of Indie Games AzPlay

AzPlay is interested in presenting and promoting independent video games that showcase the creators’ originality, creativity, innovation and other values that are important to Azkuna Zentroa.
AzPlay is pleased to announce the eighth international festival and the following contest rules:
AzPlay aims to recognise and reward the creativity of the people behind the recreational and educational essence of video games.
Any developer, including individuals, groups of people or companies who believe that their work meets the requirements of the contest rules may participate in the AzPlay international festival.
Contestants must be in possession of all rights to the video games, express or implied, including all licenses to use and exploit the games, industrial property rights, etc. Participation in this event implies the transfer of the right to communicate or showcase the selected video games for an unlimited period of time on whatever media and format Azkuna Zentroa may choose or to showcase them at festival events.
Contestants may not submit games already selected at previous editions of the event.
- Video games
Video games created or published after 1 October 2016 that meet the following requirements are eligible to compete:
3.1 It must be a playable game. No videos, trailers, previews or demo versions that do not allow interaction with the programme are allowed.
3.2 Any theme and genre. Games that promote violence or discrimination of any kind or that may be offensive to any group are not allowed.
3.3 Formats. The video game can be developed and presented on any of the following platforms:

3.4 It must be an independent video game, as this term is defined at Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indie_game. In any event, the organisers will ultimately decide whether or not a proposed game is admissible.
- Submission, additional materials and deadline
Video games must be registered using the form available at https://goo.gl/iBaUuo
The deadline for submission is 14 September 2017 at 23:59 GMT +2. Submissions received after the deadline will not be accepted.
The finalist video games will be selected on 10 October 2017.
Due to the international nature of this contest, video games not developed in Basque, Spanish or English should be submitted with the materials in English.
The organisers will pay the travel and accommodation expenses of the finalists.
AzPlay will award prizes in the following categories:

- Best original idea: €5,000
- Best visual art: €5,000
- Best sound-music: €5,000
- Best playability: €5,000
- Best Basque video game: €5,000
At least one representative of each selected video game must be in attendance at the Official Section where the finalist videogames are presented and at the awards ceremony to be held at the end of November.
In addition, several video games will be chosen from among the finalists to participate in the Nordic Game Discovery Contest in collaboration with the Nordic Game Conference.
When choosing the finalist video games, Azkuna Zentroa will consider, above all, games that transmit positive values and reject any type of aggression or discrimination.
The process for selecting the finalists and winners will be as follows:
The panel of judges will make an initial assessment of all video games submitted based exclusively on the audio-visual material provided by the participants on the registration form (images, video or Web). Following this initial assessment, approximately 25 finalist video games will be selected for presentation during the Official Section and to compete for an award. In addition, the finalist video games will be exhibited at Azkuna Zentroa for attendees to try out.
After the initial selection, the panel of judges will evaluate the finalist video games. This assessment will be based on the use of each game, the presentations at the Official Section and the discussions of the judges. Finally, the jury will draw up the list of prize winners in the different categories.
- Panel of Judges
The AzPlay panel of judges will be appointed by the contest organisers and will be composed of recognised professionals in the video game sector: artists, distributors, publishers and players who may, if they see fit, leave any of the prizes unawarded.
All works submitted to participate in this contest, selected or not, will be kept on file by AzPlay but may not be used by the organisation for profit-making purposes.
The finalist video games may be exhibited at other locations as part of exhibits or events promoted by the AzPlay International Festival of Independent Games. The organisers will notify the finalists in due time of the dates and locations of the itinerant exhibition. The developers of the finalist video games may be invited to exhibit their work at these events.
By submitting the registration form and participating in AzPlay, participants accept these rules. The organisers of the contest and the panel of judges are exclusively responsible for interpreting these rules.
