    Presentation of the finalist video games in the hóPLAY´14 International Independent Video Game Contest. Developers will give rapid demonstrations of the creative processes behind their projects.

  • The Next 4 Billion Players

    Presentation by Raúl Otaolea, CEO of WiMi5, a spin-off of Tecnalia, in which he will discuss the advantages of HTML5 for satisfying the needs of the next 4 billion players.

  • Big Indie Pitch

    The Big Indie Pitch is an event organised in collaboration with Steel Media, a British communications group specialising in video games and apps with a monthly readership of 45 million. The hóPLAY finalist developers will briefly (in 5-10 minutes) explain their projects to journalists from the leading international gaming media sources such as Pocket Gamer, AppSpy, 148apps, The Observer, IndieHaven and Ready up. This is an exceptional opportunities for indie studios to gain international visibility and notoriety.

  • Developing Mobile Apps on Google Cloud Platform

    Speakers: Bastien Legras, Cloud Platform Solution Engineer, eta Jon Lorenzo, Head of Cloud Sales Iberia.

    Bastien Legras will describe in technical detail how the Google Cloud platform can help videogame developers to have a highly scalable backend adaptable to unforeseen situations such as a sudden and massive user access to a videogame. Jon Lorenzo, for his part, will be explaining the possibilities the platform offers from a business point of view to developers interested in the solutions offered. The talk will explain how to access the $500 credit vouchers on Google Cloud Platform available to hóPLAY participants. In addition they will be explaining the necessary requirements to be met by the videogame developer participants at hóPLAY to win the prize of $100,000 credit for the Google Cloud Platform.

  • Sex, Gender and Video Games

    Date: 2 December.

    Time: 5:30 pm to 6:15 pm.

    This round table discussion will focus on the situation of the video game community and industry from the perspective of sexual diversity and gender.

    Is the industry prepared to accept all groups? Does gender matter when playing? Are we looking for more mature experiences? Round table discussion moderated by Julen Zaballa with the participation of Isi Cano, Mara Gilbert, Mikel Calvo, Eva Gaspar and Carlos González Tardón.

  • The History of Basque Video Games

    A discussion led by Julen Zaballa on the project sponsored by Tabakalera titled “The History of Basque Video Games”. This discussion supplements the exhibit organised in cooperation with Retroacción Euskadi which can be visited at the CAC of AlhóndigaBilbao.

  • Kepa Acero presents the video game, Melting Down

    Place: CAC2.

    Jokoga Interactive presents the video game starring Kepa Acero at the hóPLAY International Independent Video Game Festival.

    Kepa Acero will discuss the reasons for making video games and the ecological values he believes in. He will also talk about what he has learned on his travels to the Antarctic, Siberia, Alaska and other places where he has experienced the consequences of global warming first-hand. Josu Cobelo, the person responsible for Jokoga Intreractive, will accompany him during the presentation to provide some details about the launch.

  • Discussion of 3D Modelling, Katue Studios

    Place: CAC2.

    The discussion will focus on the MAKING OF the animated 3D short, “BeerBug”, winner of numerous awards. The wire frames, unrendered raw scenes and the different steps in the animation process and the production pipeline will be the topics of the discussion.

  • Discussion/Workshop on Oculus, Pulsar Concept

    oculusDate: 3 December.

    Time: 6:15 pm to 7:00 pm.

    Place: CAC2.

    This workshop will explain how to make a simple virtual reality video game using Oculus Rift. A development kit will be available for the attendees to try. Attendees who have laptops with Unity installed on them can try out their creations with the development kit.

  • Presentations of 4DEVgames and Pintxo Developer Projects

    Learn about the most recent developments in the Basque video game sector. Various members of the gaming development associations 4DEVgames and Pintxo Developers will be on hand to talk about their latest projects. 4DEVgames will present the results of two Game Jams held in November on two different topics: “procedural” games and “point and click”. The members of the Guipuzcoan association, Pintxo Developer, will present their latest games. Eusko eSports project will be also presented.
